Cix VFR Club Radiotelephony Manual The use of voice communications adds a great deal of realism to the Flightsim world. Pilots feel the same pressure to perfiorm properly as do real world pilots To help members, we have produced a tutorial, based on real world practice, but adapted for use on VATSIM.
CEPHACER The Airborne Flight Plan is the most frequently used piece of ATC dialogue, and needs to be learned and well rehearsed.
FSX Cockpit Sharing Cockpit Sharing is a built in feature of FSX. Instructor and student, or pilot and co-pilot can connect directly either via a direct peer to peer connection, or via FSInn 1.3 to Vatsim.  They then can take advantage of live ATC.
Peer-to-Peer Connections An explanation of technical networking issues which members will find useful if they are planning Multiplayer Peer-to-Peer connections over the Internet.
ASRC Observers Guide A basic "getting started" guide to the ASRC Air Traffic Control programme for new VATSIM members wanting to start be ATCOs, or pilots wanting to know a little about the other side of the radar screen. By Ruth McTighe.
The Other Side of the Screen An explanation of what a VATSIM ATCO sees on screen with the Vatsim Air Traffic Control Software. Screenshots taken during a Club Fly-in around Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. By David Humble.
Instrument Flight A comprehensive guide to the UK IMC rating. Written during a real world IMC traning course, it is equally valid on Flight Simulator. class="textredbold10pt">This is not an official Training Manual.

Aircraft Repainting

Zip File 4.64Mb

Want to paint your favourite aircraft in the club colours? This excellent and detailed tutorial by Tim Arnot explains how to use two commonly available graphics packages to customise any aircraft that you either download or purchase which comes with a "Paint kit" (essentially a bitmap image of all the aircraft parts in a uniform white colour). the tutorial uses the Carenado Cessna 182 as its demonstration model. Note that this aircraft is payware. If you wish to do a paint job on it yourself, you will need to purchase the aircraft via the above link.
Cessna 172N_Panel A 2-D panel created from photographs of a real world 1979 Cessna 172N. This panel is quite different to the default Cessna 172 panel, and represents the panels typical of the "plastic fascia" age.
Cix C172 Livery The Cessna 172 in Club Livery. This is the simple version for those who do not wish to tackle a full repaint as described above. Installation instructions included by John Woodside.

How to fly the circuit Flying circuits is excellent practice for accurate flying. Within the limitations of Flight Simulator's video recording capabities (and the author's flying skills), this video demonstrates a left hand circuit from Gloucestershire's runway 27 in the default Cessna 172 Skylane. Includes audio commentary.
Popham approach and landing The Piper Cub G-AWOL joins the right hand circuit downwind and lands on 26 using the offset approach required to avoid flying over the petrol filling station and bungalow just east of runway 26 on the extended centreline.
Landing at Courchevel This Flight Simulator video shows a fairly extreme short field landing on a mountain strip in the French Alps. Runway length 535 metres, airfield elevation 6,240 feet, trees on the final approach path. Download size 382Kb.
