Flight Simulation in Light Aircraft

Welcome to CIX VFR CLUB!

The CIX VFR Club is a group of Flight Simulation enthusiasts, who enjoy flying extremely realistic simulated light aircraft around the United Kingdom and across the world, over a computer generated landscape made up of real photographs and within an Internet community environment. We currently have around 800 members, of whom 80 are currently active, in at least eleven countries, which reflects the world-wide appeal of aviation simulation. Our TeamSpeak forum now resides within the Digital Theme Park Community.

Latest News

VATSIM's Code of Conduct was updated in October 2024. They require we read and inwardly digest.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has smoothed out many of its early glitches thanks to recent updates. Alongside X-Plane 12, pilots now have multiple modern sims to choose from. Of course, MSFS 2020 and X-Plane 11 still have dedicated fans, so whether you're exploring new features or sticking with a classic, we'd love to hear what you're enjoying most!

If you are flying in the USA/Canada, make sure you are aware of VATUSA's trialing of real world Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF). See VATSIM's official announcement and there's a link to a video in The Friday Rotary club thread on the forum.

The file size limit for the Screenshot Competition has been increased. We look forward to seeing your entries!

Club Nights

The Club runs informal group flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, alternate Thursdays and Fridays at present. These are mostly tours of interesting places with spectacular scenery, with the occasional tricky landing thrown in. Whilst flying, members enjoy informal chat and banter on our Teamspeak channel, which makes these events very sociable. New members are always very welcome on these tours and beginners are given all the help they need to get going. The current tours are listed on the simple calendar on the right.

On Wednesdays, as well as the evening tour, we operate lunchtime "on demand" workshop flights for new members and new pilots when there is a request for them, to ease them into the world of on-line flying with other pilots and Air traffic Control (ATC). It's the ATC that often gets new pilots all nervous, just the same as in the real world and these sessions are designed to help overcome nerves. Similar help is also available on our other weekly flight nights, but the workshop flights concentrate specifically on getting new pilots airborne and comfortable in the on-line world.

Max has set up practical training on Thursday evenings, all aspects of circuit joins and procedures. Alternate weeks are with "Club ATC" and "No ATC" (unmanned airfield). The aim is to help you understand (new comers) and practice joining a circuit. If we have more A/C flying you will also get the chance to deal with other traffic. They are informal using JoinFS. NOT online.

August's Event

The August Star Route 66, thanks Colin, quite a challenge. Well done to all who took part. Quite a long haul, especially VFR / low level. Well done Colin, thanks.

September's Event

CIX VFR Scottish Regularity Rally. A regularity rally is a race with a difference. Instead going as fast as possible and crossing the finish line first, each competitor is measured by how closely they adhere to an agreed set of arrival times at a set of checkpoints. This event pits each competitor against the clock with only the precision of their planning and execution standing between them and victory or defeat.

Activities Updates

Hover the mouse over the day to see the details.

Mondays: The MMMT'ers (Monday Group) continued their exploration of the Democratic Republic of Congo, meandering down the western half of the country. My thanks to Ed for his amazing research information, making the tours extremely interesting.

Tuesdays: From Ulster, the Tuesday group crossed to Warton via the Isle of Man, via the NTC South and west to South Wales. They then proceeded to Shoreham via Dunkeswell and the south coast.

Wednesdays: Having proceeded south through Chile, including some spectacular mountain flying, the group have entered Argentina, west of the Cerro Nevada.

Thursdays:More circuit joins

Fridays: The Rotary group have turned north, in Mexico, following the Sierra Madre range. Lots of high altitude mountain flying

Saturdays:Nothing scheduled.

Sundays:Nothing scheduled

Training

In case you hadn't heard, Max has setup a training session to enable members to practice and learn the various ways of entering the circuit. Alternate weeks are with and without ATC at EGBJ, on JoinFS. Assistance will be given, where needed. The detail flown also provides the opportunity to cope with other traffic. So that you don't get bored (ha!) and can experience other traffic, each detail also includes 1 T&G. This is informal training. Come and join us. See Max's post 'Circuits etc.'\Pilot training.. on the forum.

We normally offer two flight training courses: - a basic "get you flying" course and a comprehensive General Flying Course, which is modelled closely on the real world Private Pilots Licence course. However, one-to-one training availability is currently limited, so we are running "new pilot help flights" on Wednesday lunchtime These flights are relaxed, fun and informative. Join in on TeamSpeak. Other informal training on specific topics can also be arranged. Just post a request on the forum.

We can also run Radio Telephony courses, again modelled on real world practice.

Click on the Training menu tab on the Menu Bar for full details. We are looking for Assistant Flying Instructors
