| Briefing | DECEMBER 2025 |
| Overview | Mountain flying at its very best. You are joining the fictional airline Trekker Air which operates in the Nepalese mountains, see the linked documents. |
|||||||||
| Scenario | Trekker Air is a specialist regional airline operating a unique circular route through some of Nepal's most remote and awe-inspiring landscapes. Our STOL-capable aircraft serve hard-to-reach communities and adventurous travellers with regular clockwise and counterclockwise flights on the Kathmandu to Sanfebahgar-Lukla to Kathmandu circuit. |
|||||||||
| Start Time and Place |
Start and finish at Kathmandu VNKT any time during December. |
|||||||||
| Flight Planning |
Fly the airline's route with your simulator's dates set to a time in high season (between March and May) in a clockwise direction starting and finishing at Kathmandu. Fuel can only be obtained at Kathmandu, Samfebagar, Dolpa and Lukla. Details can be found in the Trekker Air Operations Manual (see below). Depending on the aircraft type, used the following minimum payloads must be carried (excluding the pilot).
The payload must be least 50% human passengers. The route involves some high-altitude segments, and due consideration must be given to the mandatory oxygen requirements 12,500 to 14,000 feet: Supplemental oxygen is required for the pilot for any portion of the flight exceeding 30 minutes.
The pilot must carry one E type aluminium oxygen cylinder weighing 8 kg giving 2 hrs supplemental oxygen and one spare. One cylinder must also be carried for each passenger on the Jomsom-Kangtang-Lukla legs. Oxygen supplies are available at the fuel stops and need to be carried in addition to the minimum payload requirements. |

| What Aircraft can I fly |
You may use any unpressurised aircraft (including helicopters) classified as GA (within the EASA "light" category), with a minimum of 2 passenger seats. See club rules for details. |
|||||||||
| Weather or not? |
Before starting, check the weather on some of the legs; a high cloud base is necessary. |
|||||||||
| Airmanship | This event should be fun for all, both pilots and controllers. If your enjoyment is impaired by "unsportsmanlike" ATC, let someone know so senior club members can pass on your concerns. If you get something wrong, such as entering controlled airspace without authority, learn from the experience and follow instructions - even if requested to 'disconnect'. Don't forget it is better to ask a club member or ATC when unsure rather than flying on causing confusion and mayhem! |
|||||||||
| ATC | ATC Some areas may have ATC, however, Unicom should keep you out of trouble. |
|||||||||
| Radio Discipline |
Take care not to let our TeamSpeak Chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive and then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". If anyone hears R/T which appears to be ignored and it is a club member being called, on TeamSpeak, say "ATC is calling XXXX/one of us". Then everyone stop talking until ATC calls again and makes contact. Remember that if ATC tells you "standby" It means "wait, don't call me, I will come back to you as soon as I can." |

| Club Star Award |
The Club Star will be awarded for departing from and arriving at Kathmandu VNKT. |
