Briefing 1st March 2018
Overview This flight is the first in a series of flights created with inspiration of two Youtubers you may have heard of. I know that links to their videos appear on the Club forum occasionally, so I know I'm not the only one here watching them. The channels I'm talking about are Plane Old Ben and The Flying Reporter. Ben and Jon are private pilots who share their passion for GA aviation on YouTube normally with ATC audio included, which makes it a kind of learning tool for us armchair pilots. This month's flight will take us on a trip from Jon's home base Biggin Hill, across London Gatwick to Shoreham for a cup of coffee (or tea) and a Garibaldi and back to Biggin Hill again.
Start Time and Place This event may be flown on any day in March.
Flight Planning Your first flight plan should show:
Departure: EGKB
Destination: EGKA
Route: Buckland ReservoirVRP , Transit Gatwick (EGKK), Handcross VRP, The Tunnels (not an official VRP, but often used RW)

For the return flight your flight plan should show: Departure: EGKA
Destination: EGKB
Route: Dunsfold(EGTD), Guildford VRP, (or, if you are a masochist, another transit over Gatwick.

Comments on both legs: /V/ DAYLIGHT / CIX VFR CLUB /

At 105 knots this Route should take approximately 1 hour, but please add on time to have the coffee and biscuits in Shoreham's delghtful "Hummingbird" restaurant.

Noise abatement procedures:
EGKB: Aircraft departing runway 21 must flight straight ahead for 2 nautical miles before turning en route. Remember maximum altitude uner the London TMA is 2500ft QNH.

EGKA: Aircraft departing Runway 20 should make a 10 degree turn to the right on reaching the railway line. This track should be maintained until reaching the coast before turning left or right on course.

Weather Please use VATSIM weather for this exercise. This means you may not be able to fly if the weather is bad on your chosen day, and you'll have to try another day. Welcome to real world disappointments!
ATC At the time of publishing this event, ATC has not been confirmed. However, you may find that Gatwick is manned, as it is the most popular UK Airport for VATSIM controllers.
What Aircraft can I fly? Any aircraft can be flown in this event as long as it is within the EASA Light Aircraft category.
Plan G Please find the Plan-G flight plan here.

Radio Discipline Take care not to let our Teamspeak chat cut across ATC. Stop any conversation immediately the R/T comes alive, then continue if "he wasn't talking to us". This is difficult because when transmitting on Teamspeak you can't hear the R/T. So be brief on Teamspeak, and be aware that ATC might be trying to get through. If anyone hears an R/T message which seems to be being ignored, just say "ATC is calling G-CIXN" if you have identified the callsign, or "ATC is calling us" which is a cue for everyone to be quiet on Teamspeak until ATC call again (which they will). Remember too that if asked to "Stand By" by ATC, you do not reply - not even "Roger", but simply wait until you are called again.
Remember also that there are several different ATC frequencies in use, and you may not be able to hear when communications are taking place. Make sure you have set and know how to use a Teamspeak mute switch.
