Pilot Reports (PIREPs)

Record Your Club Flights

Members are encouraged to submit a Pilot's Report, or PIREP in the jargon. It provides not only a personal record of your flights with the Club, but also helps the Club provide activities to suit members by knowing who takes part in which event.

Submit a PIREP

Click on this link to Submit a PIREP. If you are logged into the forum already, this takes you directly to the report input form, an image of which is shown below. If you are not logged into the Forum, the Forum login page opens. Fill in details of your flight, and click "Submit" to file the report. If you are unsure of anything, scroll down to the help section below before submitting your PIREP.

PIREP Rules

  1. PIREPs may be filed for any recognised Club Flight as defined in Rule 12 of the Club Rules.
A Club Flight may be any one of the following:-
    • Flying in to or out from, or flying circuits at, one of our operating bases or the monthly roving base.
    • Flying in to one of our nominated Guest airfields.
    • Taking part in the Club's published monthly event.
    • Making any other flight in a Light Aircraft (As defined in the Club Rules / Light Aircraft), which is not a Club event but conforms with Club Rules.
  2. A valid flight comprises one take off and one landing.
    • Intermediate landings on a trip must therefore be recorded as separate flights.
    • Touch and goes should not be recorded separately, but included, optionally, in the comments box.
    • Incomplete flights cannot be logged in the PIREP system.
  3. Flights should be conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) whenever possible. If selected weather conditions do not permit VFR, flights may be conducted under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR).
  4. ALL flights must be flown either ONLINE (i.e. connected to VATSIM or IVAO), or connected to the JoinFS multiplayer platform, with the following exceptions only which may be flown OFFLINE (i.e. not connected to VATSIM or IVAO), and in the simulator's shared cockpit mode, if one exists, or connected to the JoinFS multiplayer platform.:-

PIREP Rules (continued)

  1. (Continued...)
    • Training flights with a Qualified Flying Instructor. These flights must be recorded on the PIREP form as "Authorised Offline" in the "Flight Category" box, and include "Training with" and the instructor's name in the comments section.
    • 2-4-CIX Team practice or training. These flights must be recorded on the PIREP form as "Authorised Offline" in the "Flight Category" box, and include "2-4-CIX team member" in the comments section.
    • Taking part in a 2-4-CIX display event as a pilot (see the 2-4-CIX Display Pilots page for details of how to file a display pilot's PIREP).
    • Attending a 2-4-CIX display event as a spectator (see the 2-4-CIX Spectators page for details of how to file a display spectator's PIREP).
  2. You must identify the flight as a Club Flight by the addition of the text "CIX VFR CLUB" in the comments section of your VATSIM or IVAO flight plan, as defined in Rule 12 of the Club Rules.
  3. N.B. Solo practice flights for training, flown OFFLINE with no instructor, or solo 2-4-CIX display practice flights flown OFFLINE, are not recognised Club Flights and cannot be logged in the Club's PIREP system.

Member List

To view your PIREPs, click on this link to go to the Member List. Your name will normally be at the top above the main list. Click on your name to display your PIREPs. You can also view other members' reports by clicking on their names. PIREPS are displayed in chronological order, with the latest at the top. The Member List shows each member's total PIREP reported flying hours.

You can edit your own PIREPs by clicking on the callsign of any flight in the list of your flights. The relevant PIREP is then displayed in the PIREP form allowing you to make changes.

The Club PIREP Form HELP

All fields must be completed, although the current date is entered automatically. If submitting a PIREP for a different date, simply overtype the default. The form remembers previous entries, so, for example, if you have flown out of Shoreham on a previous occasion, simply typing "Sho" in the From box will list all departure airfields you have flown out of which begin with those letters. After submitting, the form will not clear, but the title will change to "Edit PIREP" to allow you to either change the information entered and resubmit by clicking "Update", or add another report with the same simulator and aircraft details to avoid having to re-enter these fields. In this case click on the "Save as New" button. When you have finished, close the PIREP window to return to this page, or click "Pilot's PIREPs" to review your entries.

If you wish to amend or delete an older PIREP, clicking the link on your PIREPs list page will open the form again for editing or deletion. Save your changes by clicking the "Update" button. You can also delete any PIREP by displaying it in the PIREP form, then clicking the "Delete" button.

Member Star Awards

As an encouragement to take part in the activities for which the club was established, the Club awards "Member Stars" for certain Club activities. The stars awarded to each member are shown in the List of Members on the club web site. Stars are awarded for: -

Stars will be awarded automatically at the beginning of each month, by means of a software routine which analyses your PIREPs, checking data for the previous calendar month. It follows that for this to work successfully, and for your stars to be awarded, you must record your flight in the club PIREP facility as detailed above.

For this scheme you MUST include the airfield's ICAO code, in the from and to fields. For example "Gloucestershire EGBJ" and "EGBJ" are valid, but just "Gloucestershire" is not. See Star Awards for more details.
